Always changing

Life is always changing isn't it.  Sometimes change is very hard  like the really difficult time Carrot and I had with her transition to kindergarten, sometimes change is easy and sometimes it is just change.

It is funny to see how kids struggle with change.  Since there is a great possibility that JonJon and Ooey will be with us next year as well we decided to make our living spaces more functional. So we bought another bunk bed for Carrot and Banana. This arrangement is wonderful really we no longer have a small annoying toddler bed in our room that I will need to navigate around each night that I need to get up to use the bathroom. Banana really was a little sad about this at first, not the he was sad to share a room with Carrot. He loves company and on any given night still is asking to snuggle up in my bed but he was a little bothered by the change. He ask if we could not sell his old bed and keep it just because it was his bed and he used it for such a long time. I told him I didn't think we would keep it because dad does not like stuff just sitting around and would want us to sell it. He said oh no mom I would be too sad. Aren't you sad to see Carrots little bed go? I said a little but again really happy to have my room clutter free. He proceeded to remind me that Carrots little bed has been in my room for so long 2-3 years and that now it is gone and that time in my life is gone....Hello he is Mr. Sentimental all of a sudden. So now I'm a tad bit sad about it but also happy for that Yeah I'm getting everything organized feel

Sledding and BBQ

Fun times sledding today!!! At first Banana and Carrot were headed out on their own. I didn't think twice at first about her being old enough to go with her brother but then I started to second guess that....so I donned on my snow pants and mittens and headed out the door after them. Was this because I ended up thinking she was still too little or was it the fact that down inside I still love sledding so much....I may never know but it was so fun. So fun Carrot and I headed back up to our house to try to get Oony and JonJon to come join us. We got one out of two. Come on Oony this is why I don't have many pictures for your photo album for Umma. Well am a little sore now and hope I am still able to sled with my new little baby if and when we ever get him. I will be sooooo old then :)

Oh and the title BBQ. Tonight Carrot was playing a game on Jeff's Ipad and she said look he said "bubbqua" we said what and she said "bubbqua". I looked on the screen of the Ipad and thislittle  penguin had a captn that said BBQ...you have to love a kindergartners when the are learning to read and sound out words.

Carrot in The Big Apple

Our Carrot girl got the best birthday present ever from her Aunt Suzannah and Uncle Chuck a trip to NYC to see Mary Poppins. This was beyond birthday present level and ended up getting even better when a ice storm caused the trip to be extended by one more night. Not only did Carrot go to NYC, see a Broadway show, get spoiled with lots of attention, she also ended up getting to go to the American Girl doll store and ended up with a doll she name Rose and beautiful matching dresses for her and her doll. That was one lucky little girl and one very generous Uncle Chuck.

Cookbook from Umma

So yesterday one of the big boxes that frequents our house from Umma in Korea contained a Korean cookbook.  This is a very welcome addition to our family because I feel like I now live with four Koreans because J and Banana can pack down just as much kimchi as JonJon and Oony.  The funny part was when we open the cookbook and the author describes this  book as being written for the immigrant bride who has to cook for the Korean in-laws.

So we opened the book and picked out two recipes for the week. I am planning to try to make all the recipes before the boys go home for the summer. Although we might skip some of the weird ones like stir-fry dried squid EWWWH

This cookbook is very interesting. Clearly written by a man but far better than looking for recipes on-line. Written by a man meaning the ingredients are listed up top but then as you are reading the instructions down below you will find he is adding something else that was not listed up top. Dinner was ok and I have written down some side notes for making it better next time. The recipe does not say how many it serves or how much meat they are using so I sort of have to guess.....all fun though :) Here is to my own version of Julia and Julia :)

New Years Day

So in following JonJon's suggestion we all woke well before the crack of dawn on New Years morning to head for the ocean to watch the sun rise on the first day of 2012.  This is quite an accomplishment now since we had two sleepy kids and one sleepy teenager and the ocean is at least an hour and forty five minute drive (keep in mind this was JonJons idea who BTW was in Korea and snug in his bed on New Years morning and did not venture out for this outing he suggested to us)

It was a lengthy drive but a memorable event for our family.  It was a beautiful sunrise.  I have never seen the sun rise on the first day of the year before.

The weather was quite lovely for January 1st.  Relatively mild temperatures and we had a delightful time.  We left the beach and went out for a not so great breakfast if Jeff would always just trust me in saying you can never go wrong with Cracker Barrel.

We made the drive home and some napped in the afternoon the rest of us relaxed and we began our adoption journey with starting to fill out our application.

All in all a great New Year - thanks for the idea JonJon (even thought you slept on New Years :)

Looking back and forward

So I began a blog a long long time ago to document the funny things the kids say for memories. Looking back I wish I would have kept up with blogging those funny little things because they are so easily forgotten. Looking forward. This new year I decided to be dedicated to documenting our family's life. The memories are priceless and I really want to have them for me later in life as well as the kids. So this blog is just that - dedicated to tracking the memories of our family, and what a blessed life God has allowed us to live.

I have made tabs for anyone who would like to follow along on our adoptions journey and also a tab for me to import what little tracking I did on my original blog called the funny things they say.

Here is to the memories!!! And a Happy New Year!!!
